Turtle Homes

Turtle Homes finds new homes for turtles and tortoises that cannot be returned to the wild. Our thorough application process allows us to screen potential owners (adopters) to ensure our strict criteria for each animal is met. Previous owners (donors) have the option of being fully involved in the selection of a new home for their turtle or tortoise, or they may allow us to make the best choice for placement.

Shortly after our inception in August, 1999, we began to establish strategic relationships with similar rescue organizations and herpetological groups, later forming an international union called Turtle Alliance. This Alliance has allowed its member groups to work together on rescue and adoption efforts. The Turtle Homes Alliance and online community handle many other adoptions and rescues. As Turtle Homes grows, it will be able to significantly increase its efforts and be able to help more turtles and tortoises each year.

As part of our comprehensive services, we offer unlimited post-adoption assistance, as well as a broad range of care, adoption, propagation, and educational resources with the help of scientists, veterinarians, breeders, and dedicated enthusiasts. We maintain a free and interactive email community where enthusiasts at all experience levels can learn more about turtle and tortoises by asking questions, sharing ideas and exchanging information. For those with less time, a quarterly newsletter is published and distributed via email containing feature articles on care, regular columns on conservation, pet health, and helpful reference information. Subscribe to either Turtle Homes or TurtleHomesNews

As part of our cooperative conservation efforts, we established "Turtle Homes Asia" whose staff has partnered with other related organizations who together work to help the dwindling worldwide population of Asian turtle species. Please visit the Turtle Homes Asia page to learn more.

If you have any suggestions about what we can do to help turtles and tortoises in the wild, or help you provide the best care possible for your pet, please let us know. We'd love to hear your ideas!
